Solution

The addition of shock and algaecide on a regular basis will be more effective at preventing algae growth than treating algae once it is visible in a pool. However, if green algae does appear, follow the steps below for treatment:

• Step 1 Adjust the pH to 7.2 - 7.4.
• Step 2 Brush the entire pool surface.
• Step 3 Shock the pool with poolife® TurboShock® shock treatment or poolife® Rapid Shock® shock treatment or use poolife® Back To Blue Shock System and follow the product label directions.
• Step 4 After 24 hours, add poolife® AlgaeBomb® 30, poolife® Super AlgaeBomb® 60, or poolife® Algae Ban II according to label directions. Your authorized poolife® Dealer can recommend which product is best for your pool.
• Step 5 Run the filter continuously, brushing and vacuuming frequently until the algae is gone.
• Step 6 Chemically clean the filter with poolife® Filter Cleaner.
• Step 7 If algae remains a problem, contact your authorized poolife® Dealer for further directions.

NOTE – If you continue to experience algae, despite a high chlorine reading, the pool water may contain too much stabilizer (cyanuric acid) which interferes with the efficiency of the chlorine. Ensure you are following responsible pool care by shock-treating with a poolife® calcium hypochlorite-based shock product and contact your authorized poolife® Dealer for further directions.

Solution

• Step 1 Adjust the pH to 7.2 - 7.4.
• Step 2 Brush the entire pool surface.
• Step 3 Add poolife® Mustard Algae Treatment
• Step 4 Shock the pool with poolife® TurboShock® shock treatment or poolife® Rapid Shock® shock treatment.
• Step 5 Run the filter continuously, brushing and vacuuming frequently until the algae is gone.
• Step 6 Chemically clean the filter with poolife® Filter Cleaner.
• Step 7 If algae remains a problem, contact your authorized poolife® Dealer for further directions.

Solution

There are many causes of cloudy water, the most common being incorrect pH, incorrect TA and improper filtration. Always check and adjust the pH and TA levels before adjusting your filtration system. Thereafter follow these steps to investigate your filtration system:

• Step 1 Make sure that the filtration system is operating properly and that it is running continuously while the water is cloudy. You can decrease run time after the pool clears.
• Step 2 Does the filter need to be backwashed?
• Step 3 If the filter pressure does not return to normal starting pressure after backwashing, the filter needs to be chemically cleaned.
• Step 4 Have the pump strainer baskets and the skimmer baskets been emptied?
• Step 5 Also test your water to make sure that the pH and total alkalinity are within the ideal range.
• Step 6 Shock the pool with poolife® TurboShock® shock treatment or poolife® Rapid Shock® shock treatment. Remember to wait until the chlorine level drops to between 1 and 4 ppm before re-entering the pool.
• Step 7 After 24 hours, add either poolife® TurboBlu Clarifier to help with regaining water clarity.

NOTE – poolife® Flocculant can also be used to clear cloudy water. Your authorized poolife® Dealer can recommend which products are best for use in your pool.

Solution

Colored Water (clear green/brown/yellow tint with no algae) has generally two causes - dissolved metals or a high organic content in the water. Follow these steps for sparkling clear water:

• Step 1 Take a sample of the water to your authorized poolife® Dealer for a full analysis.
• Step 2 If metals are detected, add either poolife® Stain Stop or poolife® Intensive Stain Prevention™ product per label directions.
• Step 3 If a high organic content is suspected, shock the pool with poolife® TurboShock® shock treatment or poolife® Rapid Shock® shock treatment per label directions. Remember to wait until the free chlorine level has dropped to between 1 - 4 ppm before reentering the pool.

Solution

Often high levels of chlorine are blamed for eye and skin irritation or a strong chlorine odor. In fact the reason could be too little free available chlorine and an incorrect pH. Follow the recommendations below:

• Step 1 Check pH (7.2 - 7.6) and alkalinity (60 - 120 ppm) levels and adjust as necessary.
• Step 2 Shock the pool with poolife® TurboShock® shock treatment or poolife® Rapid Shock® shock treatment. Once you have done this, remember to recheck the pH and total alkalinity levels and readjust if necessary. Remember to always keep the chlorine levels between 1 - 4 ppm.

Solution

Scale deposits (usually in the form of white, gray or brownish chalky deposits on pool walls and fixtures) are the precipitate that forms as a result of unbalanced water. This could be a high pH, high total alkalinity, high calcium hardness and/or a combination thereof.

Take a sample of your pool water to your authorized poolife® Dealer for a full analysis. Balance your water according to your dealer's recommendations. To avoid further scaling take a sample of the pool water to your poolife® Dealer each month for a detailed analysis.

Use poolife® Tile Cleaner Rx to remove scale deposits on all pool surfaces. Add poolife® Intensive Stain Prevention weekly to keep scaling from occurring.

Solution

• Step 1 Chemically clean the filter with BAQUACIL® Universal Filter Cleaner.
• Step 2 Brush pool walls and floor daily, and filter regularly during treatment, until your pool is free from visible algae. Continue to either Step 3(a) or Step 3(b), depending upon the water clarity.
• Step 3
  • (a) IF POOL BOTTOM IS VISIBLE: Add an initial dose of either Baquacil® Performance Algicide, Baquacil® Algicide or Baquacil® Select Algicide per label directions. Continue to Step 4.
  • (b) IF POOL BOTTOM IS NOT VISIBLE: Add the Baquacil® algicide of your choice per Step 3(a) above. Then use Baquacil® Flocculant as a broadcast flocculant per label directions. After the debris has been vacuumed to waste, continue to Step 4.
• Step 4 Test and adjust Baquacil® Sanitizer level to 50 ppm and add a start-up dose of Baquacil® Oxidizer.
• Step 5 Continuously filter until the pool is clear. Backwash or clean the filter as needed, based upon filter pressure.
• Step 6 If pool still has algae, see your Authorized Baquacil dealer for advice.

Note: Pools on BAQUACIL® CDX™ system with chronic algae issues should start adding maintenance dose (1 ¼oz. per 10,000 gallons) of BAQUACIL® Algicide weekly to pool.

Solution

• Step 1 Check and adjust total alkalinity, pH and calcium hardness to proper levels.
• Step 2 Clean the filter with Baquacil® Universal Filter Cleaner per label directions. Continue to either Step 3(a) or Step 3(b), depending upon specific water clarity.
• Step 3
  • a. IF POOL BOTTOM IS VISIBLE: Use Baquacil® Flocculant as a filter aid per label directions then continue to Step 4..
  • b. IF POOL BOTTOM IS NOT VISIBLE: Broadcast Baquacil® Flocculant per label directions. Once debris has been vacuumed to waste, continue to Step 4.
• Step 4 Test and adjust Baquacil® Sanitizer level to 50 ppm and add a start-up dose of Baquacil® Oxidizer.
• Step 5 Continuously filter until the pool is clear. Backwash or clean the filter as needed, based upon filter pressure.
• Step 6 If pool still is cloudy, see your Authorized Baquacil® dealer for advice.

Solution

There's nothing worse than swimming in a pool and experiencing painful eye irritation while doing so. While more common in chlorinated swimming pool environments, BAQUACIL® pool products are much less likely to cause eye and skin irritation. However, if these conditions occur, test your pH level and adjust to 7.2 - 7.8. If the water is in balance, but the BAQUACIL® Swimming Pool Sanitizer and Algistat level exceeds 50 ppm, you should allow the level to come down by either waiting a few days or adding some make-up water to help dilute the level. Do not add BAQUACIL® Swimming Pool Sanitizer and Algistat until the BAQUACIL® 4-Way Test Strips indicate the need to do so (<40 ppm). As always, consult your Authorized BAQUACIL® Dealer.

Solution

Foam in a bubble bath is great - in your pool, not so much. Sometimes foam will be caused by a simple mechanical defect, such as a leak in the plumbing/filter pump. Bubbles appearing where the water returns back into the pool indicates a leak in the system. So it's a good idea to check for leaks first. You should also check the calcium hardness level to be sure your water is in balance. If there are no leaks and the calcium hardness level is acceptable, test your water for the BAQUACIL® Swimming Pool Sanitizer and Algistat. If it is too high (above 50 ppm) or if your water has an almond-like taste (which would indicate too much BAQUACIL® Algicide), you'll need to reduce those levels.

A solution is to simply stop adding BAQUACIL® Algicide until the foaming disappears. Next, only add BAQUACIL® Swimming Pool Sanitizer and Algistat if the BAQUACIL® 4-Way Test Strips indicate the need to do so. Consult your Authorized BAQUACIL® Dealer for details.

Solution

Organic debris tends to accumulate around the waterline of all swimming pools. Due to the  chemical nature of BAQUACIL® Swimming Pool Sanitizer and Algistat, you may have slightly heavier deposits, especially during the first few weeks after converting to the BAQUACIL® CDX® System. You can clean the ring easily by using BAQUACIL® Surface Cleaner. This product may be used above and below the waterline.
